The m/v Mendota was specially designed with a shallow draft to accommodate the shallow waterways and narrow passages along the Upper Mississippi River, between Red Wing and Salvage, Minnesota. The m/v Mendota was also equipped with a Novec 1230 “Clean Agent” Fire Suppression System for added crew safety.

The triple Z-Drive propulsion system allows for optimal speed, power and maneuverability. In addition, the Z-Drives operate at a lower engine load to boost fuel efficiency. Each of the towboat’s super structure is supported on a bed of springs for added crew comfort and a soft-core joiner system was installed in the accommodation spaces for added crew comfort and safety.
